The Killer Ink blog was already a mighty presence before I arrived, but I think I was able to do my bit to make it even better!
One of my favourite blog types to do, which Killer had been running for some time, was Sponsored Artist of the Month. Until my arrival, these had been short blogs written based on research, but I suggested that we should do an interview format so that artists felt more empowered over the way their narrative was being told. In the three and a half years at Killer Ink, I never missed a Sponsored Artist blog – that requires research, question writing, sending to the artist with plenty of time for them to reply, editing, translating and uploading the blog to WordPress, as well as sourcing and editing images suitable for the blog and social media.
While I worked at Killer, I suggested that we were missing some important demographics in our blog writing: studio owners, and apprentices. From my suggestions we began running a Studio Highlight blog, which followed a similar format to Sponsored Artist of the Month but considered the studio aspects of tattooing, and gave us an opportunity to promote everyone from one studio in one go!
We also decided to experiment with more educational blogs, using keyword research to generate titles that would get lots of clicks, with content that would give genuine value back to our customers. These varied from aftercare guides that apprentices could refer back to and artists could give to their clients, to looks at current trends and business tips.
